How it works…

enabling switch

By holding an enabling switch, an operator can avoid danger when a machine unexpectedly operates. When the panicked operator either grasps the enabling switch tightly (squeezes it) or releases it, the switch disables the machine operation in either situation.

Take a look at the various products in the series to see which best suits your application.

HE series enabling switch providing 3 position “dead-man handle” functionality

The IDEC enabling switch series (HE series) are ergonomically designed to work where there is a human and machine interaction and this human interaction is required to turn on the machine or robot while the user is in a potentially dangerous area.

Typically the enabling switch (HExB) is mounted into grip switch (see the HE1G & HE2G series below) or is used within a robot pendant or machine control station. The 3-position enabling switch not only turns on a machine when pressed, but also turns the machine off when “over pressed” (squeezed) or released – providing the switch is installed correctly with an adequate safety circuit.

Two contacts are provided so that even if one contact fails, the other can disable the machine operation. Functionally they meet all the stringent requirements for IEC standard 60947-5-8 for this type of product.
